Korean
company Samsung has begun working on updating its popular One UI 8.5 interface,
based on Android 16 QPR2. The update will bring significant design changes,
customization features, and notable new features, making it a major upgrade
after One UI 8, which focused more on performance improvements than appearance
and security.
Key Features
of the One UI 8.5 Update
Following
criticism of the delay in the One UI 7 update, the Korean company quickly
released One UI 8 on schedule to avoid controversy. The update brings
improvements in speed, performance, notable features, and system stability, but
does not introduce major changes to the interface or icons.
The big
shift begins with One UI 8.5:
According to
leaks spotted by Sammy Fans, the Korean company is currently testing a new user
interface design known as Frosted Glass UI, along with 3D icons with realistic
shadows. This is an attempt to provide a more immersive visual experience
similar to what Apple recently introduced in iOS 26.
The Quick
Panel will also be updated to become more flexible, with new customization
options similar to Google's Android 16 Expressive interface, giving users
greater freedom to modify the system's appearance.
Interface
and user experience improvements:
- New design for system elements and sliders.
- Advanced customization of icons and icons.
- Improvements to the floating menus and navigation bar.
- A smoother and more stable user experience thanks to Android 16 QPR2.
Expected
gradual rollout in 2026:
Samsung is expected to begin rolling out One UI 8.5 during the first half of 2026, first arriving on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Z Fold 7, before expanding to other eligible phones.
